Mini Gastric Bypass Complications: Suggest By A Doctor
If you have done this thinking stomach surgery for weight loss study of the two most popular surgeries for weight loss found that obese diabetics undergoing Vertical Banded Gastroplasty lost 64% of their extra kilos after a year, compared with a 36% in patients who opt for a stomach band and complications were almost similar in both procedures. "It's a very dramatic difference," said Dr. Guilherme Campos, School of Medicine, University of Wisconsin, and formerly of the University of California, San Francisco, whose study appears in Archives of Surgery. The mini gastric bypass complications are becoming increasingly popular among the obese who want to avoid the health complications that come with being overweight, including diabetes, heart disease, joint pain and some cancers. Previous studies suggested that the gastric band was safer than gastric bypass surgery in which doctors surgically reducing the stomach size to limit the amount of food you can eat the person. In the case of the gastric band, doctors insert an adjustable silicone band around the upper stomach, to give the patient the feeling of satiety with small meals. Last week, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the widespread use of stomach band, which allows it to be implanted in people with less obesity. In the new study, researchers compared the Allergan device called Lap-Band with a form of gastric bypass surgery called Roux-en-Y. The operation was performed laparoscopically through small incisions in the belly. The study included 100 people with morbid obesity who underwent placement of the Lap-Band. These patients were compared with 100 others of the same race, sex, age and weight who underwent gastric bypass. All bypass surgeries were performed by surgeons specialized in slimming centers. "In patients treated with gastric bypass, about 86 percent successfully lost over 40 percent of excess weight. Only about 31 percent of patients treated with Lap-Band down that amount of weight, "said Campos." That's significant, "he added. Overall, 12 percent of patients in the group treated with Lap-Band and 15 percent of those who underwent gastric bypass surgery experienced complications. No deaths in either case. The author noted that obese patients need to be informed of the results of both procedures and if they choose Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy should be sure that the surgeon is experienced.
